Join MNEA’s Changing Behaviors Training Cadre: Mindfulness

The first Missouri NEA Changing Behavior Cadre will develop and deliver trainings to help educators empower students to increase control over their own behavior using mindfulness techniques.

Over the course of the training, Sept. 8 to Oct. 24, 2018, cadre members will:

  • Participate in a full course of Mindfulness Based Stress-Reduction, to learn and use mindfulness strategies that help educators recognize and manage their own stress.
  • Identify techniques to teach other educators.
  • Identify techniques to teach students, and design training to share these with other educators.

Members accepted into this cadre agree to train other teachers in their building and district to use mindfulness techniques with students.

Required training dates:
In-person trainings in mid-Missouri, exact locations TBD.
Sat., Sept. 8, 2018, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 6, 2018, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 20, 2018, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Online trainings the following Wednesdays, 6:30-9 p.m.:
Sept. 12, 19, 26
Oct. 3, 10, 24

Training is free, but participants must provide their own transportation. Those selected for the cadre agree to have their contact information shared with other cadre members, who are encouraged to car pool to training when possible.

Applicant requirements:
Applicants must be Missouri NEA members. Interested MNEA members may submit applications to join this cadre by Aug. 10, 2018. Application window will close sooner if capacity is reached.

Each accepted applicant must commit to:
1. Attend all trainings, both in person trainings and online sessions.
2. Help develop training modules to teach other educators how to use mindfulness techniques personally and with students.
3. Understand that after completing this training, they will not be a certified MBSR trainer.
3. Submit a timeline of when he or she will meet with educators in his or her building, district or higher education institution.
