These workdays are for candidates who plan to submit one or more components in 2020-2021

Candidates, plan to attend these candidate support events. Each Boost Day is held in both St. Louis and Kansas City. For all National Board Certification first time candidates, advanced candidates, and renewal candidates submitting entries in the 2020-2021 school year. Current NBCTs are invited to register, to mentor candidates.

Bring your component work and questions for this work day. Please bring your standards, portfolio instructions and laptop computer with you. If you are working on Component 3, you can bring the video you are considering for submission. We will also discuss preparing for Component 1.

This free event by the Missouri NEA NBCT Network is open to both MNEA members and non-members.

Get your questions answered, discuss COVID-19 adjustments, and reserve most of the day for personal component work and feedback on one component. As you register, ask questions you want addressed during the online session. NBC candidates can get feedback on one component, details in the registration questions.

At 9 a.m., we will address all questions, and any new ones that come up.  Part of the day will be for you to work independently, or collaborate with others. We will gather again at 2 p.m. for any last questions.

National Board Jump Start VIRTUAL

MNEA National Board Jump Start is a comprehensive seminar designed to provide National Board candidates important information about the certification process, time to examine component and Assessment Center requirements, the opportunity to plan how to meet requirements, and time to collaborate, gather resources and information needed to pursue certification — all in a supportive, constructive, and collegial environment.

This workshop is for first time, returning, and advanced candidates who plan to submit any components of National Board Certification in the 2021-2022 school year. Find out more about National Board Certification at

First time National Board Jump Start participants must attend Foundations I. If you are just starting the National Board process, we recommend you attend all sessions this year.

Returning participants choose which days to attend, depending on where they are in the certification process. Scroll down this page to read descriptions of each session.

Descriptions of each Jump Start session:

Foundations - Body of Knowledge:
Delve into the National Board's essential ideas about what teachers should know and be able to do: Five Core Propositions, Architecture of Accomplished Teaching and National Board Content area standards, and connect these ideas to your teaching practice. All first-time Jump Start attendees must attend Foundations.

Component 1- Content Knowledge:
Learn what is expected for this component and strategies to identify possible assessment center exercise items. Begin to determine your content knowledge strengths and gaps, identify resources and develop a study plan.

Component 2 - Differentiation in Instruction:
Determine what is expected for this component using National Board content area component directions, standards and scoring rubrics and identify resources for developing written commentary.

Component 3 - Teaching Practice and Learning Environment:
This academy introduces candidates to the three focus areas of Component 3: learning environment, student engagement, and sequence of instruction. Candidates will chart the requirements of Component 3, learn how to navigate the component directions, and discuss ways to capture accomplished practice in video evidence.

Component 4 -
Effective and Reflective Practitioner:
Dig into component directions, standards, and scoring rubrics to understand what candidates must do in this component. Learn resources for gaining data and assessment literacy skills.

Foundations in Practice for Component 2, 3 and 4:
Collaborate with other candidates to co-construct a menu of effective strategies for differentiation and student work analysis, for data analysis and assessment, for dynamic engagement, for developing and for instructional practices to support your development of Components 2, 3 and 4.
